Arriva London crowns ‘Top driver’
Norwood driver Manuel Ferreira was awarded the title ‘Arriva London Bus Driver of the year’ at Edmonton bus garage on Saturday (July 4) after the pick of Arriva London’s drivers battled it out in this year’s final.
The competition started back in February when over 130 entrants put themselves forward to compete in the prestigious award. Each entrant was then observed over the following months and tested on varying aspects of their role, with the top twenty going on to Saturdays final.
With the sun shining the finalists were put through their paces with a tough bus manoeuvring test which included reversing in confined spaces, accurate positioning at stops, using roundabouts as well as a technical knowledge and Highway Code test.
Delighted with his win Manuel said: “This is the second time I have entered, I tried last year but was disappointed with my performance so I was determined to do better.”
As well as picking up a winners cheque for £200 and a weekend away Manuel, along with top placed driver from Arriva London North, Malcolm Langran will represent Arriva London in the national bus driver finals in Blackpool in September.
